CANON DEBUTS TREND-SETTING PRODUCTS AND TECHNOLOGIES THAT WILL SET THE
STANDARD FOR BUSINESS COMMUNICATIONS IN THE '90s
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, at a Los Angeles Product Showcase, Canon U.S.A., Inc. (NASDAQ: CANNY) showed for the first time in the U.S., new products and technologies, reaffirming its position as a state-of-the-art office equipment manufacturer.
 Product/technology highlights include:
 -- CJ10, the world's first affordable desktop digital color copier/scanner/printer using Canon's bubble-jet technology
 -- NP6060 60-cpm copier, a new standard for high-end copier users
-- Remote Communications System, features artificial intelligence to analyze copier performance before problems occur
-- Integrated copier for advanced document handling applications in a standalone or network configuration
 -- Full-color fax machine
The CJ10 sets a new price standard with a suggested retail price well under $10,000. Featuring a 400 dots-per-inch (dpi) resolution and full-color with up to 256 gradations per color, it also serves as a printer when connected to a computer via an Intelligent Processing Unit (IPU) or to a range of popular color system configurations with an optional video adapter.
The NP6060 copier incorporates a new copy drum that has an estimated life of 3-million copies, up to 25 times higher than other copiers in its class. It offers enhanced reliability, increased copy consistency and reduced service calls.
Canon also debuted its Remote Communications System which enables a computer located at an authorized service facility to track and diagnose copier performance and recommend appropriate service action. Using standard telephone lines for two-way communications, the copier initiates a call to the computer and the computer responds back to the copier.
Canon showed its fax server which is designed for use with its FAX-L770 laser facsimile system. The server can be used with LAN software and enables from 5-30 PC users on one network to fax directly from their workstations.
Canon also exhibited prototypes of two new technologies, including the Digital Copier X, an advanced digital system that functions as a desktop copier, producing 30 copies a minute at 400 dpi resolution. Upon availability, a universal interface will allow the unit to function as a network communication device with unlimited potential, offering such capabilities as high-resolution printing, faxing and optical filing.
Also previewed was a full-color bubble-jet facsimile machine, a Group IV unit that offers 200-dpi resolution.
