It was hard not to notice Canoga Park High pitcher Stacy Milne in the program for Tuesday's 19th annual Daily News All-Star softball softball, variant of baseball played with a larger ball on a smaller field. Invented (1888) in Chicago as an indoor game, it was at various times called indoor baseball, mush ball, playground ball, kitten ball, and, because it was also played by women, ladies'  game.

Milne's statistics are gaudy: 42 stolen bases and a .667 batting average batting average

She still thought she had something to prove.

``I knew people didn't take my stats as seriously, or the Sunset Six (League) as seriously,'' she said. ``So I wanted to represent well for my school and the City Section.''

Mission accomplished. Milne was accorded Most Valuable Player honors as the West defeated the East 4-0 at Cal State Northridge.

High pitcher Selena Salazar was the winning pitcher, throwing the first, eighth and ninth innings. Salazar, who will play for Cal State Northridge next year, struck out six, walked two and gave up one hit.

In the eighth inning, Salazar faced her future college teammate Sarah Kahn of Quartz Hill.

``At first, I didn't know her, but she came up and introduced herself to me before the game,'' Salazar said. `'It was cool. We stated talking about our plans and coming here next year.''

The West team jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. After Milne scored on Veilleux's single, Veilleux stole second and scored on a single to right by Royal of Simi Valley's Devon Hofland. Two batters later, Hofland scored on a Salazar flyball.
