CANOGA PARK GETS 1ST VICTORY.

Carlsen, who had lost two consecutive three-hitters, was 2 for 3 at the plate for the Hunters, who got their first victory in eight games this season. Santiago Esparza also had two hits, including a single in Canoga Park's three-run fourth inning.

Hunters starter Steve Ramos got the win as Poly fell to 5-2-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

Reseda 6, Grant 3: Alfredo Sanez hit a three-run home run and Brian Menkin went 4 for 4 to pace the Regents (2-1) to a Valley Pac-8 win at Reseda. Sanez finished 3 for 3.

North Hollywood 10, Monroe 0: Merrill Dunn struck out seven, doubled twice and drove in four runs and Carlos Martinez tripled in two runs for the Huskies (4-5, 2-1) in a Valley Pac-8 game at Monroe.

Verdugo Hills 4, Lincoln 3: Jimmy Stevenson's two-run single in the sixth helped the Dons (2-1, 2-1) edge the Tigers in Northern Conference action. Jo Guereque had three hits and an RBI RBI

Village Christian 10, Bell-Jeff 0: Jackie Aranda threw a no-hitter and struck out 12 and shortstop Jesse Leivo was 2 for 3 with three RBI for the Crusaders (6-2).

No. 4 Saugus 3, Quartz Hill 0: Jamie Gillies pitched a one-hitter with seven strikeouts and also doubled in a nonleague win for the Centurions (8-2). Shannon McRoy and Chris Gill collected an RBI each for Saugus.

Verdugo Hills 7, Lincoln 0: Melanie Wood Melanie Matchett Wood, born 1981 in Indianapolis, Indiana, is a graduate student mathematician currently studying at Princeton University who has set numerous "firsts" as a woman in the area of mathematics.  struck out 10 in a no-hitter and Jodi Kent added a three-run homer to lead the Dons (5-2, 2-0).
