CANNOCK CHASE.


Cannock Chase Cannock Chase (grid reference SK000165) is a mixed area of countryside in the county of Staffordshire, England. The area has been designated as the Cannock Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Chase gives its name to the Cannock Chase local government district. , an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB AONB Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty ), offers leisurely and free walks and cycle rides through a variety of scenery.

It was designated as an AONB in 1958 because of its beautiful landscape, wildlife and history. Cannock Chase is the largest surviving area of lowland heathland Noun 1. heathland - a tract of level wasteland; uncultivated land with sandy soil and scrubby vegetation

Cannock Chase and its associated animal and plant communities are part of an historic landscape dating back thousands of years. Wild deer still roam the Chase and are probably descended from the original herd introduced in Norman times for hunting purposes..
