AN Australian MP has urged people to splat toxic toads in a bid to stop their spread.

Liberal Party MP David Tollner said the best method is to bash giant cane toads, left, on the head as he used to do when he was a kid.

But animal welfare groups have urged a more humane method - bunging the toads in the deep freeze.

Cane toads were imported to Queensland in 1935 to control beetles on sugar plantations.

But they are spreading all over Australia because any animal that eats them dies
