LANCASTER - Family and friends are planning a candlelight vigil A candelight vigil is an outdoor assembly of people carrying candles, held after sunset. Slaying victim Marshall Garrison's mother, Shari Martin, said she hopes the gathering will jog people's memories about the April 21 shooting in which he was killed and two other employees and a customer were wounded as they stood outside Schooner's restaurant and club.

``I'm expecting at least 300 people,'' Martin said. ``I've got 300 candles.''

Beginning around 8 p.m., the vigil vigil (vĭj`əl) [Lat.,=watch], in Christian calendars, eve of a feast, a day of penitential preparation. From about 80 yards away, the gunman fired nine rifle shots over the roofs of cars parked in the shopping center parking lot, investigators believe. The gunman opened fire without warning from so far away that the victims never saw him.

Other people in the parking lot provided the only description of the gunman: a thin Latino man about 18 to 20 years old and about 5 feet 5 inches tall, wearing a black knit cap pulled over close-cropped hair.

Garrison's mother said she has been told that a man of the same description argued with and threatened her son about a week before the shooting.
