CANDLELIGHT PRAYER VIGIL FOR SOUTHWEST DETROIT HOSPITAL TONIGHT, NOV. 11, AT 7 P.M.
DETROIT, Nov. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Some 100 employees, and their families, of LifeChoice Quality Health Plan and the Southwest Medical Plaza, located in Southwest Detroit Hospital, will hold a candlelight prayer vigil around the hospital tonight at 7 p.m. "We want to surround the hospital with love," said Sarah Griffin, organizer of the vigil and a longtime employee of LifeChoice Quality Health Plan. "We know that God answers prayers and that His will will prevail. We want to keep our jobs and we want to keep providing services to the many people who depend on us." Any community member interested in joining with the employees in the prayer vigil can come to Southwest Detroit Hospital, I-75 and Michigan Avenue at 7 p.m. Tomorrow morning in the courtroom of federal bankruptcy Judge Steven Rhodes, the health maintenance organization is scheduled to be put up for auction in order to pay off the bad debts accumulated by the hospital under the previous administration. LifeChoice Quality Health Plan is the HMO owned by the hospital. Community Health Care Providers, Inc. (CHCP), a minority investment group interested in buying the HMO and the hospital in one package, had been approved by several federal agencies to purchase the hospital and LifeChoice. But then, in August, Judge Rhodes reversed himself and denied the sale of the hospital and HMO to CHCP because of his belief that other bidders could offer more than the $1.8 million offered by CHCP. -0- 11/11/93 /CONTACT: Claudia Corbin, 313-496-0610, for LifeChoice Quality Health Plan/
