Also, he said he did vote for the appropriation measure that funded the bill. To the high school students, Villaraigosa said he believed the mayor should have a formal relationship in running the public school system and that the issue of education had to be dealt with as more than a campaign issue. ``If four years from now I don't keep my promise that I'm going to work hard to try to turn around our schools, that I'm going to be involved in our schools ... then the people of this city shouldn't support me,'' Villaraigosa said.
