VALENCIA - Residents interested in running for local office - the Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  City Council or water or school boards - are invited to Candidate Academy at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 17 and 19 at the Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672.  Chamber of Commerce.

Among the highlights of the first day of the academy will be a presentation by City Clerk In the United States, a City Clerk is an elected or appointed official who is responsible as the official keeper of the municipal records. In some places, the Clerk may be known as the "Village Clerk" or "Town Clerk".  Sharon Dawson, who will discuss the logistics of preparing and filing the paperwork to run for office. On the second day, lawyer Hunt Braly will discuss campaign financing. The session will conclude with a panel of elected officials and prior candidates who will discuss their experiences in running for office and answer questions.
