CANDIDATES DUKE IT OUT IN PRIMARY THREE INCUMBENTS FACE CHALLENGES IN JUNE ELECTION.

SIMI VALLEY Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  -- The June 6 primary election presents a variety of decisions for Ventura County voters, including two Board of Supervisors races.

Nine incumbents are running in Ventura County races, include three facing challengers and six others running unopposed.

The three candidates in the Fourth District, which includes Moorpark and Simi Valley, have posted hundreds of campaign signs in the area, spurring Simi Valley officials to push forward on a proposed ordinance to prohibit such displays in public rights of way.

Incumbent Judy Mikels, who has held the seat since 1994, is opposed by consultant Jim Dantona and businessman/rancher Peter Foy Peter Foy (11 June 1925-17 February 2005) was the stage flight effects specialist who founded "Flying by Foy", most widely known for its work flying actors in the play Peter Pan. .

Mikels is campaigning on her record of helping the county get through a period of tight budgets, saying she has brought new services to eastern Ventura County and put county government in good financial condition.

But Foy said his business experience will help him do a better job of cutting government waste and he would do more to support law enforcement and fire protection services.

Dantona said he would better represent residents in conflicts with developers and do more to provide parks for youth sports activities and other forms of recreation for citizens of eastern Ventura County.

In the Second District race, which includes the Conejo Valley The Conejo Valley is a region spanning both Southeastern Ventura County and Northwest Los Angeles County in Southern California, United States. It was discovered in 1542 by Spanish explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, and eventually became part of the Rancho El Conejo land grant by  area, incumbent Linda Parks is being challenged by environmental consultant Joe Gibson William Joseph Gibson (born June 28, 1919 in Nocona, TX) was an American football defensive back and end in the NFL for the Washington Redskins and the Cleveland Rams. Gibson also played in the All-America Football Conference for the Brooklyn Dodgers. .

Parks is a former mayor of Thousand Oaks Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. Avocados, citrus, vegetables, strawberries, and nursery products are grown.  and current chairwoman of the Board of Supervisors known primarily for her efforts over the years to protect Ventura County's open space and environment. She said she has also helped hold down the costs of county government while pushing to have the east Ventura County jail reopened to save money and time for local law enforcement.

Gibson is chairman of the board for the Conejo Recreation and Park District and stresses his platform of protecting the environment, providing recreational and educational opportunities for children and their families, supporting law enforcement and working to deal with barriers to local employment created by the county's high housing costs.
