A battle between the city's former fire chief and the former police chief for the mayor's post, the race for two council seats, and a parcel tax for fire services

Also on the ballot is Measure M, a parcel tax that would raise $828,495 for fire services. If approved, the tax will be $19 a year for vacant lots, $21.09 for residential lots and $22.42 for commercial lots.

By going with an assessment district for fire protection services, the city can free up $500,000 the city now spends from its general fund for the Fire Department. The additional revenue would provide for three more full-time firefighters and a secretary.

At present, the California City Fire Department has six firefighters who work in shifts of two.
