Coke is launching a pounds 2.5 million bid to put some sparkle See SPARQL.  in youngsters job prospects.

) is launching a new apprenticeship apprenticeship, system of learning a craft or trade from one who is engaged in it and of paying for the instruction by a given number of years of work. The practice was known in ancient Babylon, Egypt, Greece, and Rome, as well as in modern Europe and to some extent  scheme in September.

 drinks such as Fanta, Sunkist and Schweppes Tonic as well as Coke, has 100 vacancies.

The opportunities will be spread across the firm's nine sites in Britain which already employ 3,000 workers.

The two-year SkillStart scheme will combine on-the-job experience with college work.

It is aimed at 18-20-year-olds with at least four GCSEs.

The apprentices will be paid pounds 8,500 a year plus a shift allowance for anti-social hours.

They will get 25 days holiday and CCSB will pay all college fees.

CCSB personnel manager Sara Payne Sara Jane Payne (born 1969) is a British media campaigner who works in conjunction with the News of the World for their Sarah's Law, a law similar to the American "Megan's Law".  says the scheme will be tailored to the firm's needs. But she says it will lead to a City & Guilds Progression Award.

"We are not guaranteeing full-time jobs at the end of the course but we would hope to keep some people on.

"But anyone who does leave will not go empty handed. They will have gained some good, solid experience with a top company.

"They will also have a nationally-recognised qualification."

So what sort of people is CCSB hoping to attract? "We want people with bags of energy and enthusiasm," says Sara.

"They must meet the academic qualifications but also convince us they have the determination to complete the course. "Time will be spent at our bottling plants Noun 1. bottling plant - a plant where beverages are put into bottles with caps
industrial plant, plant, works - buildings for carrying on industrial labor; "they built a large plant to manufacture automobiles"
 and distribution centres.

"So candidates must have an appetite for physical as well as office work."

For youngsters struggling to get a job it could be the real thing.
