reports this summer about the construction of Walnut walnut, common name for some members of the Juglandaceae, a family of chiefly deciduous, resinous trees characterized by large and aromatic compound leaves. Species of the walnut family are indigenous mostly to the north temperate zone, but also range from Central  Canyon Elementary School elementary school: see school. , officials said Thursday that they are two months behind and the campus will not be ready when classes start in September.

``We were told everything was on schedule, but then all of a sudden, we were told it would not be ready,'' said Principal Teresa Williams. ``That means we'll all have to be very flexible, but we are still going to have a strong instructional program.''

Until the facility is finished, pupils will be housed in classrooms on four sites throughout the Moorpark Unified School District A unified school district is a school district which includes both primary school (kindergarten through middle school or junior high) and high school (grades 9-12). In Illinois, these districts are called unit school districts. .

that the campus would be ready by November, Williams said she expects the move-in date actually will be in January.

Either way, she said, the staff will do everything it can to make kids feel like they are part of Walnut Canyon as a school community.

``We'll be trying to bring the school together in planned activities,'' she said.

Events like a trip to a performing arts center A performing arts center, often abbreviated PAC, is a multi-use performance space that can be adapted for use by various types of the performing arts, including dance, music and theatre.  and a family picnic would be ways to encourage pupils, parents, faculty and staffers to get to know each other, Williams said.

School officials said construction was held back by the heavy winter rains and a delay in installing an important stoplight at Casey and Walnut Canyon roads. The light originally was expected to be in place by the time classes started but is now scheduled to be installed in January.

When school starts in September, officials plan to house kindergartners at Mountain Meadows Mountain Meadows, small valley in extreme SW Utah, where in 1857 a party of some 140 emigrants bound for California were massacred. It was a period when friction between Mormons and non-Mormons was acute, with Mormons bitterly resenting the coming of U.S.  Elementary School; first-, second- and some third-graders at Arroyo West Elementary; more third-graders at Peach Hill Elementary; and third-, fourth- and fifth-graders at Flory Elementary.

Williams said she will have an office at Mountain Meadows, but expects to visit a different campus every day.

Walnut Canyon's before-school care program will be provided at each campus, but the after-school program will be only at Mountain Meadows.
