The school board has no immediate plans to vote for or against enacting a policy that would require athletes to submit to drug and alcohol testing. Board member John Hassel, however, said he wouldn't mind if such screenings were up for a vote - and he would support the idea if it does. ``I hope from this there will be enough discussion to generate a full-blown proposal to the board,'' he said. In his report to the school board, Hart district administrator Mike Allmandinger said the survey showed that ``data from the student and coach groups is clearly more supportive of drug testing of student athletes, and student drug testing in general.'' But the 139 parents surveyed were more evenly divided on the subject, Allmandinger noted. Given four options in the poll, parents were pretty evenly split on testing all students versus testing athletes only. Also, they were similarly divided on not testing athletes or not testing any student. In the survey, 205 Canyon, Hart, Saugus and Valencia students and 46 district coaches were polled.
