 Junior High may be the most crowded school in the district, but after more than 100 volunteers gave it some paint, plants and attention Saturday, it's easily one of the most cared for.

Joining more than 65,000 people in 50 countries, members of the Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. ``We've been cracking jokes and laughing all day,'' said Sharon Brubaker, one of a dozen volunteers painting the hallway outside the gym. ``I've never painted before, but it's a good feeling. You feel like you've accomplished something.''

After chipping peeling paint from the hallway and classroom walls, volunteers applied primer before covering the surface with a pristine white paint - about 30 gallons total, provided by the school, which is part of the William S William, crown prince of Germany

Four rooms in the 500 building were transformed Saturday, the before- and-after contrast impressing all involved.

``The walls were full of tape, pencil marks, glue, gum, fingerprints,'' said Jan Noirot, who, with her husband, Mark, helped coordinate the effort.

The local Church of Christ meets in the school gymnasium Sundays, so the cleanup effort lends a cheer to their weekly services in addition to the students, teachers and staffers.

As workers spruced up the teachers lounge, white replacing the blue- green walls, others tended to the nearly $1,000 worth of donated plants and flowers.
