CAMPFIRES OK'D FOR SOME PARK AREAS.Byline: Marianne Love Staff Writer ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST The Angeles National Forest (ANF) was established by executive order on December 20, 1892 as the San Gabriel Timberland Reserve. It covers over 2,600 km² (650,000 acres) and is located in the San Gabriel Mountains of Los Angeles County, just north of the metropolitan area of Los - Forestgoers are partly back to roasting marshmallows now that the no-open-fire restriction has been lifted, officials said. Campfires are allowed in designated campgrounds and picnic areas but only within fire rings built by the U.S. Forest Service. ``Not in homemade fire rings,'' spokeswoman Gail Wright said. ``In areas where there are not developed campsites or picnic areas, people can have the jellied jel·lied adj. 1. Wright said California Campfire Permits are required for fires outside of a developed camping or picnic area and that the permits can be obtained from any Forest Service office. ``They can't have open campfires or charcoal barbecues, however,'' she added. Fire restrictions are usually imposed during the summer. This year, the limits were imposed in April and at the end of June. ``It has to do with the dry weather or lack of rain,'' Wright said. ``They are put on every season around May and June, depending on the severity of the season.''
