CAMPBELL-MITHUN-ESTY AND UK'S KHBB TO FORM INTERNATIONAL AGENCY NETWORK
Network Lays Framework for Global Brand Management System
MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Advertising agency Campbell- Mithun-Esty (CME) today announced that it will form a new international agency network Oct. 1, with London-based agency KHBB. The new agency network, to be called CME-KHBB, will be the 17th largest in the world with combined billings of $1.2 billion.
Using existing operations in North America and Europe as a foundation, CME-KHBB will immediately add six continental European offices to the new network. By Oct. 1, the network will include 36 offices in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg), France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and the Far East.
CME-KHBB will differ from most international advertising networks through a structure that has been labelled the "Hub and Spoke" system. The system is designed to assure that multinational clients maintain control and consistency of their communications in multinational markets.
CME-KHBB full-service offices will function as "hubs," providing clients with strategic planning and execution. The "spoke" offices will adapt strategic themes to local market requirements. Initially, CME- KHBB "hub" offices will be located in Chicago, Detroit, Houston, Minneapolis, New York, London, Paris and Toronto. "Spoke" locations will include Los Angeles; Windsor, Ontario; and 20 other regional markets in the United States and Canada. In Europe, Spokes will be in Brussels, Belgium; Frankfurt, Germany; Madrid, Spain; Milan, Italy; and Zurich, Switzerland. In the Far East, there will be an office in Hong Kong.
William D. (Bill) Dunlap, currently chief executive officer of CME, will become worldwide chief executive of CME-KHBB. Stuart Bull, chairman of KHBB, will be named European chief executive.
Current CME Chief Executive Officers Michael Vogel (Detroit and Toronto), Howard Liszt (Minneapolis and Chicago), C. Anthony Wainwright (New York) and Jerry Kerr (Houston) will report to Dunlap. Bruce Haines will be chief executive officer of CME-KHBB, London. Judy Balint will be appointed chief executive of CME-KHBB in Paris. Both will report to Stuart Bull.
According to Dunlap, nearly two years were devoted to the development of an agency framework that would provide clients with control and continuity over their multinational brands, and eliminate duplication of agency functions. The new network structure is based on recent studies which indicate that multinational clients believe strategic and executional consistency are essential to achieving universal brand awareness and cost efficiency.
"The CME-KHBB network represents the essence of 'thinking global and acting local,'" Dunlap said. "Our full-service 'hubs' will provide clients with superior strategy and creative execution. The 'spokes' will assure cost-effective extensions across national boundaries."
CME was created in 1988 through the merger of Midwestern agency Campbell-Mithun and East Coast agency William Esty. Through client growth and acquisitions, the agency became America's 15th largest, with billings that now exceed $1 billion. CME represents major clients including Andersen, BASF, Brown & Williamson, Chrysler Corporation, ConAgra, DowBrands, General Mills, Kimberly-Clark, Pillsbury, Texaco, 3M, U S WEST and others.
KHBB was established in 1978 and with billings of $200 million, ranks as the United Kingdom's 19th largest agency. The agency has a reputation for its new business performance, rating in the top 10 for new business won in each of the past five years, and rating number one in client retention for the same period. KHBB clients include Alcatel, Allied Lyons, Carlsberg, Federal Express, Reckitt & Colman, Uniroyal and others.
