CAMPAIGN '96 SPOTLIGHT.


The 39th Assembly District seat is being vacated by Panorama City Democrat Richard Katz, who is being forced to retire at the end of the year by term limits. Here are brief biographical sketches and comments from the six candidates in the March 26 primary on why he or she is running and what the constituents of the district need.

Age: 32

Occupation: Owner of real estate and escrow business

"When we let our kids out by themselves to play ball or ride bikes, we worry if we'll ever see them again. Things weren't like this when I was growing up in the Valley. Stopping crime and making our neighborhoods safe is the No. 1 priority."

Republican Ollie McCaulley

Education: Bachelor's degree in business from Alabama A & M University.

"The three major issues I have seen during my 16 years in the Valley are crime, loss of jobs and illegal immigration. If elected, I would bring my law enforcement background to bear in pushing the fight against crime to the forefront."
