CAMBRIDGE INDUSTRIES ACQUIRES TROY PRODUCTS

DEARBORN, Mich., Feb. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- In a move designed to broaden its capabilities in plastics processing, Cambridge Industries has acquired Troy Products, a Sterling Heights., Mich.-based manufacturer of plastic products. Terms of the purchase were not disclosed.
The company supplies the commercial, industrial and automotive industries with a variety of injection-molded and structural-foam products, with presses ranging to 1,550 tons. The company's capabilities include gas-assisted injection molding, an advanced technology which produces hollow-core plastic components.
Troy Products will continue to be operated separately under current management, but can now draw upon the additional resources of Cambridge Industries.
Privately held Cambridge Industries also operates a number of other companies supplying plastic components to the North American automotive industry.
"By making Troy Products part of the Cambridge Industries group, we've broadened the technological capabilities of our entire group," said Richard S. Crawford, company president and chief executive officer. "The customers served by each of our enterprises can now take advantage of a broader range of plastics processing technologies, as well as our 119-year experience in serving the transportation industry."
In addition to Troy Products, Cambridge Industries, located in Dearborn, operates Voplex Corporation (AMEX: VOT), which supplies the North American automotive industry with a broad range of interior systems and components; Wolf Engineering, which manufactures functional, high-precision plastic components and assemblies for the automotive industry; and Voplex-Happich Corporation, which manufactures a variety of automotive exterior components and trim.
Cambridge Industries, owned by Richard S. Crawford, Richard E. Warnick and John D. Craft, had combined sales of more than $100 million in 1992.
