Is Used as Basis of CALY's Management System

Lumos Technologies, Inc., a provider of carrier-class network management solutions, announced today that CALY Networks incorporated Lumos' TMS in their CALY Node Manager(TM).

The CALY Node Manager is the element management system that accompanies the CALYnet(TM) system, a broadband gigabit wireless system for 3G backhaul and metropolitan networks.

TMS is a complete network management system containing comprehensive management services, from fault to inventory, that manages wireless networks as well as optical and wired networks.

The CALYnet system is a next-generation IP wireless mesh network (1) A network that relies on all nodes to propagate signals. Although the wireless signal may start at some base station (access point) attached to a wired network, a wireless mesh network extends the transmission distance by relaying the signal from one computer to another.  with multi-gigabit capacity for backhauling 3G mobile base stations and connecting enterprise local area networks (LANs) directly to the fiber optic backbone. Operators can support high bandwidth (100Mbps) next-generation IP services without the large investment and delays associated with alternative solutions.

The CALY Node Manager can be integrated into a service provider's existing Operational Support System. Such a system is able to provide a centralized place for managing Faults, Configuration and Performance, and is a critical application for managing the mesh wireless IP network.

"Basing the CALY Node Manager on Lumos' TMS assured us of a robust and reliable carrier-class management system for our customers," said Amir Fuhrmann, Director Software Engineering of CALY Networks. "After looking at many other commercial alternatives, we selected Lumos because of their extensive experience in the market, the breadth of their product, its developer documentation, and the quick, comprehensive support they provide." He added, "Using TMS has enabled us to ship CALY Node Manager and CALYnet concurrently."

TMS has an extensive SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) A widely used network monitoring and control protocol. Data are passed from SNMP agents, which are hardware and/or software processes reporting activity in each network device (hub, router, bridge, etc.  interface for element management and a CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture) A software-based interface from the Object Management Group (OMG) that allows software modules (objects) to communicate with each other no matter where they are located on a private network or the global  interface to the higher OSSes. "We're very pleased to be chosen by an innovative company like CALY Networks," commented Fergal Lyons, Director of Network Architecture at Lumos Technologies. "In today's business Today's Business is a show on CNBC that aired in the early morning, 5 to 7AM ET timeslot, hosted by Liz Claman and Bob Sellers, and it was replaced by Wake Up Call on Feb 4, 2002.  climate, the provision of a superior and tailored management solution is even more important than before. We are confident that by using TMS, CALY will distinguish their product. It has allowed their engineers to concentrate on customizing their management system while at the same time it reduced resource requirements The components of a system that are required by software or hardware. In a PC, it may also refer to the resources required to install a new peripheral device, namely IRQs, DMA channels, I/O addresses and memory , and accelerated their time to market."

About CALY Networks

CALY Networks Inc. was founded in 1998 to design and produce next-generation wireless network solutions for the 3G mobile backhaul and emerging metropolitan access market.

The CALYnet system provides a next-generation IP wireless mesh metropolitan area network (MAN) system with multi-gigabit capacity for connecting mobile base stations and local area networks (LANs) directly to the fiber optic backbone. Operators will be able to support high bandwidth (100Mbps) IP connectivity without the large initial investment and delays associated with alternative solutions. The system allows these providers to simplify their network architecture, bypass the legacy local loop, and provision the next generation of value added Value Added
