CALTRANS AGREES TO SELL LAND TO LAUSD.

Plans for a new 1,700-student North Hollywood high school North Hollywood High School, originally called Lankershim High School when it opened in 1927, is a secondary school in North Hollywood in Los Angeles, California. Its mission is to improve mobility across the state. It manages the state highway system and is actively involved with public transportation systems in California.  for the past 2 1/2 years to purchase the six-acre parcel bounded by Chandler Boulevard, Cumpston Street and Fair and Vineland avenues.

``This is a great example of two agencies working toward a common goal,'' said Jim McConnell, the district's chief executive of facilities.

``Caltrans has acted swiftly and wholeheartedly in reaching an agreement to allow this school to be funded and built.''

The $71.7 million school would help relieve crowding at North Hollywood and Grant high schools. The sale price for the Caltrans property was not available because the acquisition had not been finalized.

Construction is scheduled for bidding in the second quarter of 2003, but an opening day has not yet been set.

In the past few years, the district had struggled to find a suitable location for the new school. District officials drew community ire for considering the Robinsons-May corporate headquarters at Laurel Canyon Boulevard Laurel Canyon Boulevard is a major street in the city of Los Angeles, California. It starts off at Polk Street in Sylmar in the northern San Fernando Valley near the junction of the San Diego (Interstate 405) and the Golden State Freeways (Interstate 5).  and Oxnard Street and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority land near the North Hollywood subway station.
