``We talk about the creative process,'' said Frances Halpern, an author and co-host of the new show. `` ``Beyond Words'' is the only show I know of where we're not just interviewing authors to hype their books.''

The show will plumb the world of writing from best-selling novelists to closet poets who have never published a word. It will discuss the nuts and bolts nuts and bolts

``Passion is contagious,'' said Jon O'Brien, who co-hosts the show with Halpern. ``Most writers have a passion for the creative process and enjoy talking about it. There's never the same way of doing something.''

The idea was born when O'Brien, a screenwriter who hosts the Wednesday night radio show ``Ventura Talk,'' also on KCLU, invited Halpern on the air to talk about publishing. The chat, originally planned to last 25 minutes, wound up stretching over an entire hour. Halpern was invited back again and again, and the two realized maybe they had something promising.

The station agreed to give the pair a one-hour time slot Continuously repeating interval of time or a time period in which two devices are able to interconnect.  at 10 a.m. Sunday and debuted the show March 17 with little fanfare.

``We're trying to keep it kind of quiet,'' said Mike West, program director and operations manager See datacenter manager.  at KCLU. ``It's kind of like when a restaurant opens. You wait a couple of weeks before you have a grand opening.''

West said Ventura County should provide a receptive audience for the show because local residents tend to be literate and well-educated.

``A lot of people who listen to National Public Radio like to read books,'' he said. ``This is Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region, , and naturally people want to write things and get published.''

The show will open its phone lines to callers to speak with the hosts or guests. And it will end with a segment called Info Bytes, a sort of radio bulletin board for book stores, authors and writing groups to share information about upcoming events.

``I hope very frankly that we can get syndicated,'' said Halpern. ``While our home will always be KCLU and we will always have time for people in the Ventura and Santa Barbara area, we want to expand and talk to a much broader audience.''
