Purdy will receive the annual award March 19 at the association's professional development conference.

``This award is given for providing excellence in choral performance in school,'' CAME's executive director, John Larrieu, said Friday. ``She is an outstanding teacher and an outstanding choral educator.''

Purdy, Canyon High's longtime choral director, was flattered by the honor.

``I have a long history of having good groups and doing many unique and different things with my students,'' Purdy said. ``I'm a choral musician, and I'm still singing. I try to be involved.''
