The calendar is already almost 3 months old, but the signing session drew a steady flow of county workers, eager to meet the calendar models - oh yes, and to raise money for the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation.

``We're only buying these for a good cause,'' said Lori Howard, deputy for Supervisor Michael D. The foundation was formed in 1971 in memory of Ruch, an 8-year-old girl who was killed in 1970 when some lighter fluid Lighter fluid may refer to:

The foundation printed 7,500 calendars, and so far about 2,500 have been sold at $12 a piece, said event coordinator Chelise Jordan.

Encinas said he had seen firefighter calendars before in other cities, many of them high on beefcake content. But Encinas wanted to go for something more tasteful taste·ful

``We didn't want to do a cheesecake, Chippendales-type calendar,'' Encinas said.

Most of the models are in men-at-work poses in their uniforms, but Encinas and one other model did take their shirts off. ``We felt we had to give them some type of bang for their buck,'' Encinas said.

In fact, the 1999 calendar will have at least two more months of shirtless beefcake.

``The most frequent comment I get is that women want to see more skin,'' Encinas said. ``We have to give them what they want.''

If anyone wants to get a copy of the calendar they can call the foundation at (800) 242-BURN.
