CALEDONIA TO BEGIN DRILLING FOR KIMBERLITE PIPES IN NORTHWEST TERRITORIES.TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 13, 1995--Caledonia Mining Corporation, of Toronto (TSE-CAL, NASDAQ-CALVF) is pleased to announce that a geophysical ge·o·phys·ics n. (used with a sing. verb) The physics of the earth and its environment, including the physics of fields such as meteorology, oceanography, and seismology. and drilling program will commence in March in the NWT NWT or N.W.T. abbr. Northwest Territories NWT Northwest Territories (of Canada) . The 1994 results and 1995 program are detailed below: Drybones Bay Joint Venture (50%) - Drilling to commence in March Caledonia and its 50% Joint Venture partners, SouthernEra Resources Limited, have completed a detailed geophysical survey Geophysical survey refers to the systematic collection of geophysical data for spatial studies. Geophysical surveys may use a great variety of sensing instruments, and data may be collected from above or below the Earth's surface or from aerial or marine platforms. that delineated de·lin·e·ate tr.v. de·lin·e·at·ed, de·lin·e·at·ing, de·lin·e·ates 1. Drilling on the first of several of these targets will commence in March. Dunvegan Property (79%) - Drilling to commence this summer Caledonia completed a comprehensive till sampling program that confirmed highly anomalous kimberlitic indicator mineral counts with favourable chemistry. The till sampling program in conjunction with detailed geophysical interpretation has led to the delineation of four targets with signatures characteristic of kimberlite pipes. These targets will be the subject of a drilling program commencing this summer. Kikerk Lake Properties (80 - 100%) - Drilling to commence in March Caledonia completed a till sampling program that defined at least five kimberlitic indicator mineral trains that originate on its properties in the Kikerk Lake region. Preliminary results reveal the possibility of between 2 and 3 kimberlite pipes existing on the Kikerk East property and another 2 on the Kikerk West properties. Commencing in February, Caledonia will fly a geophysical survey over the Kikerk East and West properties. It is anticipated that this survey will locate the geophysical signatures of the kimberlites that are the sources of the indicator minerals. These targets will be the subject of a drilling program commencing in March. Bagpipes bagpipes Noun, pl a musical wind instrument in which sounds are produced in reed pipes by air from an inflated bag bagpipes npl → gaita sg bagpipes Property (100%) Geophysical survey to commence in February Caledonia's 1994 till sampling program revealed two samples with kimbelitic indicator minerals down ice of two geophysical targets that had previously been identified as prospective kimberlitic targets. Commencing in February, the two targets will undergo a further survey to clarify their geophysical signatures. Geophysical Targets (100%) - Kimberlitic Indicator Minerals detected 24 of the 226 geophysical targets sampled by Caledonia in 1994 revealed small numbers of kimberlitic indicator minerals. The chemistry of several of these grains reveals that they have been sourced from a potentially diamondiferous kimberlite pipe. Further geological interpretation of the results will be required to determine if the indicator minerals are from proximal or distant sources. Coppermine & Bathurst Alluvial al·lu·vi·al adj. Of, relating to, or found in alluvium: alluvial soil; alluvial gold. alluvial Adjective of or relating to alluvium Noun Properties (100%) Work carried out by Caledonia and others has confirmed Caledonia's hypothesis that there has been at least five hundred metres of erosion on a large proportion of the kimberlite pipes in the Northwest Territories Northwest Territories, territory (2001 pop. 37,360), 532,643 sq mi (1,379,028 sq km), NW Canada. Lac de Gras was the centre of the Canadian diamond rush of the 1990s. There are two working diamond mines in the area, Ekati Diamond Mine, and Diavik Diamond Mine. region. This first stage of exploration has revealed no diamonds and has shifted the emphasis of the program to investigate the possible erosion of diamonds to the east, west and the south of Lac de Gras. The first stage of exploration did however recover anomalous gold, silver and copper geochemical results which are presently undergoing geological interpretation to determine their significance.
