Yu is from Taejon, South Korea, a city of more than a million people located about 100 miles south of Seoul.

He applied for the exchange student program to attend school in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area.  because he thought it would be a good experience for him. The Boron school was selected for him, he said.

He attended Boron last year for the fall semester and returned to attend his junior year at Boron. He has lived with the same host family for two years.

``I like it here. The people here are nice, and the school is pretty fun,'' said Yu, who has a 4.0 grade-point average and is a member of the Boron High's Mathletes competition team. ``Teachers are really nice. ``I'm not really sure yet, but I'm thinking about something like graphic art. I like to draw stuff,'' Yu said.

``He's just an ideal student. He works hard and is fun to be with. The other students have fun with him,'' Greene said. ``We are proud of him, especially being a foreign exchange student. Those tests are harder for them.''
