Chairmen Lee Ramer and Tim Disney are planning the Oct. 25 event at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, with honorary chairs Jane and Michael Eisner.

 at the Los Angeles Music Center The Music Center (officially named the Performing Arts Center of Los Angeles County) is one of the three largest performing arts centers in the nation. Located in downtown Los Angeles, the Music Center is home to the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Ahmanson Theater, Mark Taper . Also receiving honors will be Frank Gehry, the father of two CalArts alumni and designer of the concert hall.

The gala will feature as guests painter Ross Bleckner, multimedia performance artist Laurie Anderson and alumnus Jacques Heim and his Diavolo Dance Company.

``We've designed the night's program to reflect the national and international avant garde performance and exhibition activity that will be featured at REDCAT when it opens in 2002,'' CalArts President Steven Lavine said. ``At CalArts, we always celebrate our anniversaries not by looking back, but by looking forward.''

CalArts was the first college in the United States to offer degrees specifically for students of the visual and performing arts. Walt and Roy Disney united the Los Angeles Conservatory of Music, founded in 1883, and the Chouinard Art Institute The Chouinard Art Institute was a professional art school founded in 1921 in Los Angeles, California by Nelbert Murphy Chouinard (1879-1969).

Born in Montevideo, Minnesota, Chouinard studied at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York and in Munich, Germany.
