Haden's professional career began in Missouri where he was known as ``the little 2-year-old Charles Edward.'' The toddler was the youngest cowboy singer and yodeler on the air, playing a part on the Haden family's Midwest radio show. After teaching himself jazz, Haden moved to Southern California near the end of the 1950s and teamed up with Ornette Coleman, a freight elevator operator and horn player. Recently featured in Time magazine and named best acoustic bassist by Down Beat magazine, Haden has recorded more than 300 albums with a wide variety of artists including Metheny, Hancock, the Marsalis brothers, John Scofield and John Coltrane.
