Haden is also known for his signature lyrical bass lines and is one of the most respected jazz bassists and jazz composers today. , founder of the jazz program at California Institute of the Arts California Institute of the Arts known as CalArts U.S. private institution of higher learning in Valencia. Haden, who teaches at CalArts, also plays throughout James Cotton's ``Deep in the Blues'' album, which has been nominated for best traditional blues album. The nominations mark the eighth and ninth for Haden. When he isn't teaching, Haden performs around the world. The jazz program he created at CalArts encourages students to develop as improvisers, composers and performers. Students integrate jazz with music of different cultures. Haden's professional career began in Missouri when he was 2 and touted as the youngest cowboy singer and yodeler on the air, on the Haden family's popular Midwest radio show.
