CALARTS GROUP IN JAZZ SHOW.

California Institute of the Arts' Latin Jazz Latin jazz is the general term given to music that combines rhythms from African and Latin American countries with jazz and classical harmonies from Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe and United States.

The two main categories of Latin Jazz are Brazilian and Afro-Cuban.
 Ensemble will perform at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Plaza de Raza in Los Angeles as part of the ongoing Watts Towers Arts Center Jazz Program.

Under the direction of David Roitstein, director of the CalArts Jazz Program, and visiting faculty professor Alfred Ortiz, the ensemble will perform contemporary Latin music as well as traditional Salsa and Afro-Cuban pieces.

The concert is sponsored by CalArts' Community Arts Partnership The Community Arts Partnership (usually known as CAP) was established in 1990,and is the first program of its kind in the U.S. The program links the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) to community art centers and public schools throughout Los Angeles County as part of an , a program designed to bridge the talent and resources of the campus with the artistic potential of young people throughout Los Angeles County.

This concert is funded by the city of Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department The City of Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department is the official Los Angeles, California, USA arts council.

The agency approves the design of structures built on or over City property and accepts works of art to be acquired by the City.
