``I welcome Mr. Fisher to the board,'' CalArts board Chairman Lawrence Ramer said in a statement. ``His financial experience will be a great asset to CalArts.''

Fisher has held a variety of offices at companies affiliated with the Capital Group. He is a portfolio manager for the firm's domestic and global assets and has been responsible for the organization's international investing since 1982.

He also serves as a trustee at several other institutions, including the Harvard-Westlake School, the Lowe Institute and Alternative Living for the Aging. He is an advisory board member of the International Monetary Fund Retirement Plan.

Founded by the late Walt Disney in 1961, CalArts offers undergraduate and master's programs in both visual and performing arts.
