CALARTS' FILM SCHOOL RECEIVES GRANT AWARD FUNDING WILL GO TOWARD INTERNSHIPS.Byline: Carol Rock Staff Writer VALENCIA - California Institute of the Arts California Institute of the Arts known as CalArts U.S. private institution of higher learning in Valencia. Created in 1961 through the merger of two other art institutes, it was the first in the U.S. was awarded $15,000 Friday to support internships in the School of Film/Video from the Motion Picture Academy Foundation. The grant was part of an overall $200,000 award to 13 local universities, colleges and cultural organizations to fund film education and cultural programming. Worldwide, a total of $500,000 was given to 47 institutions. Funding for the grant comes from the annual Oscar telecast licensing fees. ``This is one of many grants the foundation has given to CalArts,'' said program coordinator Greg Beal. ``They have received internship grants every year since 1994; the amounts have varied from $5,000 to $15,000, depending on how much the grant fund is that year.'' Beal said a $12,500 grant received by CalArts during the 2004-05 cycle supported five students. ``CalArts is one of the most important film schools in the world,'' said Beal. ``We're proud to be able to support their internship program.''
