 feasting upon big orange gourds will start Saturday at the city's sixth annual Pumpkin Festival.

In addition to 30 tons of pumpkins, the festival will feature hand-crafted items, a pumpkin cook-off, seed-spitting contests, an American Indian village, a pioneer living experience, pumpkin bowling and pet adoptions.

A festival attendee will be awarded a walk-on part and tour of the set of CBS-TV's ``Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman is multi-Emmy Award winning western/dramatic television series in the United States, created by Beth Sullivan. It ran on CBS for six seasons, from January 1st, 1993 to May 16th, 1998. ,'' which is filmed at the festival location.

The event, co-hosted by the city of Calabasas and the Calabasas Chamber of Commerce, will be held at the Old West setting of Paramount Ranch in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area: see National Parks and Monuments (table). .

Admission is $3.50 for children 4 to 12 years old, $6 for seniors and youth, and $7.50 for adults. Off-site parking is $4 with free shuttles to the entrance.

The Calabasas festival is among a handful of weekend pumpkin celebrations. Three nonprofit groups have joined together to sponsor Oktoberfest in the Canoga Bowl parking lot. The festival started Thursday and continues through today at 20122 Vanowen St.

The Great Pumpkin Fest is Saturday at the Granada Village Center, at the corner of Chatsworth Street and Zelzah Avenue.
