CALABASAS COUNCIL TO REVIEW SECURITY.

 and video cameras are among the proposed measures being considered for City Hall following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The City Council on Wednesday will review staff's proposal, which would cost about $15,900 to implement. Mayor Leslie Devine, however, wants her peers to also consider authorizing an $8,250 walk-through metal detector detector: see particle detector. .

``What are the minimal things we can do that can assure people that when they come into our public building for a public meeting, no matter what our national government is doing, they are relatively safe,'' said Devine, noting the possibility of war with Iraq.

Along with planters in the front entrance of City Hall to block vehicles from coming through, staff recommends a digital security lock device for the rear door; improved security lighting at the back door and parking area; and deputies doing periodic checks during council meetings.

The metal detector would require an armed security guard with a $250 handheld wand A handheld optical reader used to read typewritten fonts, printed fonts, OCR fonts and bar codes. The wand is waved over each line of characters or codes in a single pass.  to monitor the equipment. The cost for a security guard would be $18 an hour.
