 CAL-VET REPS READY TO ASSIST
VETERAN HOME OWNERS IN OLD GULCH FIRE
SACRAMENTO, Calif., Aug. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- While more than three thousand evacuees take refuge at local evacuation centers, representatives of the Cal-Vet Loan Program are working in Calaveras County to help veterans and their families affected by the Old Gulch Fire, according to an update issued Friday by California Department of Veterans Affairs (CDVA) Director Benjamin T. Hacker.
"I am very pleased at how promptly our Cal-Vet staff has reacted to assist veterans and their families," said Hacker.
Cal-Vet property agents are stationed at the Angels Camp Evacuation Center, located in the office building at the rear of Bret Harte School on Highway 49. Property agents will be manning the office from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 22-23, and throughout next week.
As CDVA reported Thursday, Cal-Vet home owners should call GAB Business Services Inc. at 800-626-1613, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to report a fire insurance claim. The call is toll-free. For emergencies at any other time, call 800-621-5410.
Veterans may also contact Cal-Vet's south Sacramento office immediately at 916-322-1797 for assistance or they may wish to visit the office at 4433 Florin Rd., Suite 170.
Under contract with Cal-Vet, Cravens-Dargan and Company administers fire insurance on all Cal-Vet properties except mobilehomes and some condominiums. GAB, under contract with Cravens-Dargan, adjusts all fire insurance losses for Cal-Vet.
The fire insurance does not cover damage to personal property or contents. However, the Cal-Vet policy covers additional living expenses if the veteran must move to a temporary residence while the Cal-Vet property is repaired or rebuilt.
To contact CDVA in Sacramento, the toll-free number is 800-952- 5626.
