Byline: Gerry Gittelson Daily News Staff Writer

Kyle Boller Kyle Bryan Boller (born June 17 1981 in Burbank, California) is an American football quarterback who plays for the Baltimore Ravens of the National Football League. He was drafted by the Ravens in the first round of the 2003 NFL Draft out of California. , who passed for a state-record 4,851 yards and 59 touchdowns for Hart High this season, has accepted a football scholarship at California California (kăl'ĭfôr`nyə), most populous state in the United States, located in the Far West; bordered by Oregon (N), Nevada and, across the Colorado River, Arizona (E), Mexico (S), and the Pacific Ocean (W). , he announced on Sunday Sunday: see Sabbath; week. .

Boller, of Valencia, had narrowed his choices to Cal and Oregon. He chose Cal after visiting the Berkeley campus over the weekend.

``After seeing the campus, I just decided I liked the atmosphere, the players, and coach (Tom) Holmoe.'' Boller said. ``I just got the feeling this was my place. It was sweet, and there is so much to do there. I'm so happy and way excited.''

Boller, a 6-foot-3, 210-pounder known for long-bomb touchdowns, has a good chance to start as a freshman. Starter Justin Vedder (2,322 yards, 11 TDs) graduates, while no returner attempted more than 12 passes in 1998.

``I think I have an opportunity to play right away, and coach Holmoe said the best one is going to start, so that is good to know,'' Boller said. ``The coach was real honest with me from the beginning, and I can really see myself playing for him for the next four years.''

Boller said he liked Berkeley much more than Oregon after surveying both campuses over the last two weekends. He had also considered Colorado, Florida State, and Tennessee.

Boller said he will sign a letter of intent Feb. 3.

``I'm glad to have the weight off my shoulders,'' Boller said. ``Everyone has been asking me where I'm going. I could not wait any longer.''

Boller said he will visit Cal again during spring football practice before enrolling for summer school on July 1.

He could become the second outstanding Cal quarterback from Hart High - after Joe Kapp Joseph Robert Kapp (born March 19, 1939[1] in Santa Fe, New Mexico) is a Hispanic former professional American and Canadian football player. Kapp is also a former college football head coach of the University of California, Berkeley, and a former general manager of the , first-team All-American in 1958 (and much later the Golden Bears' head coach).

``It would have been nice to go to the same college,'' said Owens, who was with Boller celebrating his decision Sunday. ``But as things turned out, we each had to go our on own way. I think it's awesome we're both going to play against each other in the Pac-10 because we grew up together and now we get to keep in touch.''
