Byline: Jim Inghram Daily News Staff Writer

Validation. That's what Saturday's four-game victory over UC San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850. San Diego includes the unincorporated communities of La Jolla and Spring Valley. Coronado is across the bay.  provided for the Regals' volleyball team.

Sure the team had won six of seven. And the only match it lost was to Division II CS Dominguez Hills. A match it had comfortably in hand 15-9, 15-2 after two games, but a change in personnel positioning doomed the rest of the match. The Regals dropped the next three to the Toros Toros,a version of Greek word Taurus, may refer to:

The wins were piling up, but the question could always be asked. Yeah, but how was the competition?

Well, with the 6-15, 15-9, 20-18, 16-14 victory over the Tritons Tritons are a race of sea gods and goddesses born from Poseidon's son Triton. Like their father, their bodies ended with fish tails instead of legs. They are often compared to other Merman/Mermaid like beings, such as Merrows, Selkies, and Sirens. , the answer is, pretty good, thank you.

The Regals were led by freshman Courtney Castellaw (Cypress High), who had 20 kills, and Kristin Scott (Thousand Oaks Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. Castellaw had 20 digs, Tory Fithian (La Reina La Reina (Spanish: "The queen") is a commune of Chile located in Santiago Province, Santiago Metropolitan Region.  Alyssa Hain (La Reina) had 54 assists and 12 digs.

``We came in with the attitude that if we win, we win, if we lose, we lose,'' McCartin said. ``We were pretty relaxed and we had a lot of fans show up and they made a lot of noise. It helped us. At times, everyone was so loud you couldn't hear anything. I think it distracted San Diego.''

Said middle blocker Kelly Mongini: ``We knew they were good and we knew we had to play a match where we didn't make many mistakes if we wanted to win.''

The victory pushed the Regals from No. 5 in the West region to No. 3. UC San Diego remained atop the Division III
