Tonight is when the newcomers meet the veterans and the process of meshing into a cohesive cohesive,

unit begins - a coordinated effort that should continue Cal Lutheran's soccer domination of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) is a college athletic conference that operates in the NCAA's Division III. It consists of eleven small private schools which are located in Southern California and organized into eight athletic programs. .

The team opens training with meetings tonight. On-field practices begin Saturday at 8 a.m.

The men's team also begins with meetings today and will be on the field at 6 a.m. Saturday.

But it's the women's team that has owned the SCIAC SCIAC SIGINT Correlation Integration & Analysis Capability  and little should change that in 1999.

The women have won every SCIAC championship since its inception eight years ago, have a 94-1-1 conference record and are 48-0 in road conference games.

``We'll definitely be a team to watch,'' said women's coach Dan Kuntz. ``The streaks are a source of pride and each team has the goal of upholding them.''

Players to watch include senior midfielder

Ashley Scott, junior midfielder Betsy Fisch, junior forward Alia Khan and sophomore forward Leilani Green.

Khan and Green will have greatly increased roles in the offense with the departure of All-Conference selection Holly Roepke, who graduated, and leading goal-scorer Christian Rasmussen, who returned to Denmark.

Scott was also an All-Conference selection and is one of the top players in the nation.

``Those girls are definitely ones to watch,'' Kuntz said. ``But we also have newcomers that should make an impact for us.''

Kuntz expects Alix Rucinski and Bonnie bon·ny also bon·nie

``It should be another good year,'' Kuntz said. ``We're excited to get going.''

Men's soccer: ``We're going to have several local players that will carry the team,'' Kuntz said. ``It's something good to see. Players that choose to stick close to home and then perform well.''

A key to the teams success will be whether Oskar Kantoft, last year's leading goal scorer, can return. Kantoft, from Denmark, has eligibility remaining but isn't sure he can fit soccer into his schedule and also manage his academic requirements.

``Oskar will be a big part of this team if he can play,'' Kuntz said. ``We'll know for sure today what his status is.''

Everyone was to return except Kristin Scott, who graduated, but All-Conference selection Lauren McCartin transferred to UC Santa Barbara Santa Barbara (săn'tə bär`brə, –bərə), city (1990 pop. 85,571), seat of Santa Barbara co., S Calif., on the Pacific Ocean; inc. 1850. , Marianne Moll retired because of back injuries and the status of Emily Walen, Kelly Mongini, Kylene Krol and Sara Fristad is uncertain.

McCartin is the biggest loss. She would have been the team leader and a conference player-of-the-year candidate. The 6-foot outside hitter led the team in kills and was near the top in aces.

The situation will clear up Monday when the team opens practice.
