``We're real excited to be going,'' coach Jeff Lindgren said. ``It's just a real neat thing to go against all the best teams.''

The Kingsmen's best finish was 14th in 1993. The squad - winners of 20 of 21 over the past three years - is ranked No. 16 in Division III.

``We've been working hard on our skills,'' said Lindgren, in his seventh year. ``We've been using video this year to break down our driving, chipping and putting.''

The favorites today will be top-seeded Methodist (North Carolina) - which has a golf management program and 150 hopefuls trying out for the team each year - along with Otterbein, ranked No. 2.

Methodist won the Pinehurst Tournament by seven strokes and finished 50 strokes ahead of the Kingsmen (579-621).

Lindgren said the Kingsmen have a good balance of returners and newcomers this season.

The top players:

Rick Brown: He has been the No. 1 golfer all season, averaging 76.7 strokes. The first-team All-SCIAC senior from Westlake High and Moorpark JC has scored above 80 just twice all season with a low of 70.

``Rick is real solid,'' Lindgren said.

``He hits the ball a long way and has a good mental approach. He handles the pressure well.''

Clint Elsemore: The sophomore is the team's most improved player In some sports, a Most Improved Player award is given to players who have improved the most over the year.
