Early on the game appeared to be held firmly in the palms of Kimball (11-0) and Cal Lutheran starter Andrew Barber.

Barber allowed just four hits until the fourth inning, when an error by first baseman Sean Smith Sean Smith may refer to one of the following:

``It's the best pitching performance we've seen this year,'' Cal Lutheran coach Marty Slimak said of Kimball. ``We watched earlier games today and they were slugfests. I felt that this game would be a pitchers duel.

Barber struck out nine, while Kimball struck out seven. Zappa, a first-team All-American, led the Titans at the plate, going 3 for 4.
