On Sunday, freshman pitcher Eric Kiszczak assured the Kingsmen a place in the final four with a complete-game 3-1 victory that eliminated Upper Iowa.

``We've had three pretty-good pitched games,'' said Cal Lutheran coach Marty Slimak. ``Now it's right back where we need to be again.''

The winner of Oshkosh-Paterson will play today at 7, while the loser will have to come right back and play at 3:30. Regardless of the result of the noon game, the later matchups are Bridgewater (Mass.) State vs. Oshkosh and Cal Lutheran-William Paterson.

The Bramletts and a few friends drove the Kiszczak family van from Lake Havasu, Ariz., to Salem in two days, despite three breakdowns caused by some bad gasoline gasoline or petrol, light, volatile mixture of hydrocarbons for use in the internal-combustion engine and as an organic solvent, obtained primarily by fractional distillation and "cracking" of petroleum, but also obtained from natural gas, by  bought in New Mexico New Mexico, state in the SW United States. Not to be overlooked was the support Kiszczak got from his senior catcher, Tom McGee. McGee drove in Cal Lutheran's second run and made a dangerous sliding catch at the backstop to end the game with two Upper Iowa players on base. ``I didn't care where it was,'' McGee said, ``I was going to catch it.''

``We're a good ,'' McGee said, looking at Kiszczak. ``He's confident in what I call.''

The Kingsmen seem to have shaken off Thursday's 4-0 opening loss to Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Now they'll find out if that game's losing pitcher, ace Andrew Barber, has forgotten it, as well. He's penciled in for today's start.
