San Bernardino (săn bûr'nədē`nō), city (1990 pop. 164,164), seat of San Bernardino co., S Calif., at the foot of the San Bernardino Mts.; inc. 1854.

Manager:: Dino Ebel Dino Ebel (born March 20, 1966 in Barstow, California) is a former minor league baseball player and manager for the Los Angeles Dodgers who is currently the third base coach for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Ebel attended San Bernadino Valley College.

Outlook: Slugger Lamont Mathews and left-handed pitcher Phil Devey Phil Devey (born May 31, 1977 in Lachute, Quebec) is a Canadian baseball pitcher. He is a graduate of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (then known as the University of Southwestern Louisiana).  return for the defending league champions. Other key players include shortstop Joe Thurston and right-handed pitcher Eric Junge.

RANCHO CUCAMONGA QUAKES The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes are a minor league baseball team in Rancho Cucamonga, California, USA. They are a "high-A" class team in the California League, and have been a farm team of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim since 2001.

1999 record: 76-64

Outlook: The Quakes feature a strong pitching staff led by returnees Mike Bynum,a lefty, and right-handers Shawn Camp and Jeremy Fikac. Also back are first baseman Graham Koontz, a left-handed power hitter,and infielder Alex Palaez, a scrappy hitter who was among the leading hitters in the California League last season.

< HIGH DESERT MAVERICKS The High Desert Mavericks are a minor league baseball team in Adelanto, California, USA. Their Major League parent club is the Seattle Mariners. They are a "high-A" class team in the California League, and had been a farm team of the Kansas City Royals since 2005 before the switch.

Manager:: Scott Coolbaugh

1999 record: 68-73

Outlook: Key returnees for the Mavericks are catcher Robby Hammock, a strong hitter and fielder, and right-handed pitcher Justin Kees. Outfielder Jhensy Sandoval, who played at Double-A El Paso last season, gives the Mavericks a powerful bat and a strong throwing arm.

LAKE ELSINORE STORM The Lake Elsinore Storm are a minor league baseball team in Lake Elsinore, California, USA. They are a "high-A" class team in the California League, and are a farm team of the San Diego Padres.

Manager:: Mario Mendoza

1999 record: 63-77

Outlook: Third-year manager Mario Mendoza leads a young Lake Elsinore team looking to gain experience. The Storm are led by left-handed pitcher Benny Duarte and are expecting big things from Nathan Haynes, their speedy center fielder, who will start the season on the disabled list.

LANCASTER JETHAWKS

Affiliate: Seattle Mariners

Manager:: Mark Parent

1999 record: 55-85

Outlook: The JetHawks are hoping an infusion of talent and the leadership of first-year manager Mark Parent will improve a team that had one of the worst minor league records in the nation last season. The JetHawks, who return team MVP (Multimedia Video Processor) A high-speed DSP chip from Texas Instruments, introduced in 1994. Officially introduced as the TMS320C80, it combines RISC technology with the functionality of four DSPs on one chip.  Patrick ``Peanut'' Williams, get 15 players from the Single-A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers are a Class A minor league baseball team, affiliated with the Seattle Mariners, that plays in the Midwest League. MODESTO A's

Outlook: With nine players returning for the A's, who led the league with 88 victories in 1999, Modesto figures to be among the favorites this season. Right-handed reliever Jim Brink, who was second in the California League in saves for the A's last season, is among the top pitchers on a talented staff. VISALIA OAKS

Affiliate: Oakland A's

Manager:: Juan Navarette

1999 record: 75-65

Outlook: Hard throwing left-hander Travis McCall, who played at Modesto last season, is among the key additions this year. Outfielders Hipolito Martinez and Omar Rosario, who played for Visalia and Modesto, respectively, last season, will be counted on to provide power to the Oaks' lineup. Third baseman Matt Howe is the son of Oakland A's manager Art Howe.

SAN JOSE GIANTS The San Jose Giants are a minor league baseball team in San Jose, California, USA. They are a "high-A" class team in the Northern Division of the California League, and have been a farm team of the San Francisco Giants since 1988.

Outlook: Infielder Tony Torcato and catcher Sammy Sorrano, who played at the Giants' Bakersfield affiliate last season, are expected to make significant contributions for San Jose. Right handed pitcher Jerome Williams, the San Francisco Giants' first overall draft pick last season, is expected to be a key addition for the Giants, who finished their most recent campaign locked-up in a two-way tie for fourth place in the league with Visalia.

BAKERSFIELD BLAZE

Affiliate: San Francisco Giants

Manager:: Keith Comstock

1999 record: 64-76

Outlook: Hard-throwing right handers Tony Coscia and Manuel Bermudez return for the Blaze and will be counted on to lead a staff that also features Bakersfield's local star John Valenti, a converted infielder. Outfielders Scoop McDowell, a returnee, and Kevin Thommason, who played for San Jose last season, are among the most notable players for the Blaze.

MUDVILLE NINE

Affiliate: Milwaukee Brewers

Manager:: Barry Moss

1999 record: 57-83

Outlook: Formerly the Stockton Ports, the Brewers organization is building its Single-A affiliate around the legend of the Mighty Casey. They have employed a Mighty Casey Mascot and are building a new stadium in Stockton at the site - where legend has it - Casey actually struck out. Key players include infielder Pete Paciorek, nephew of former Dodger Tom Paciorek, and J.M. Gold, a highly regarded pitching prospect.
