CAL ENERGY USES DELTAV AS PART OF GEOTHERMAL PLANT UPGRADE.
Cal Energy will be using DeltaV(tm) for the first time as part of an upgrade and expansion of controls at a 49 MWatt geothermal plant in the Salton Sea area of California, south of Palm Springs. This facility will make extensive use of FOUNDATION(tm) fieldbus H1 data highways with Yokogawa transmitters connected to the DeltaV(tm) host system. Full fieldbus interoperability will be provided between the DeltaV system and Yokogawa field devices. "We chose the DeltaV DCS system for the upgrade because it's the most logical choice for upgrading our existing control system," said Susan Hobbie of Stone & Webster Engineering. "While DeltaV hardware and our existing controllers are not directly compatible, the communication capability of DeltaV controllers made integration easy. As for the transmitters, our client has used both Yokogawa and Rosemount transmitters before and requested both manufacturers be on the list of acceptable suppliers for fieldbus transmitters."
One DeltaV system will be used to interface to Cal Energy's existing 4 units. A second DeltaV system will operate a new unit. Startup is scheduled for April 2000.
"It's gratifying that leading-edge customers like Cal Energy are selecting DeltaV for their automation needs.
