Longtime resident Jack Stewart Jack Stewart is a name shared by several people:
  • Jack Stewart (soccer), American soccer player
  • Jack Stewart (hockey), former National Hockey League player
  • Jack Stewart (English footballer), English professional footballer in the 1950s
, part of an investment group that brought a drugstore to the community, will become California City's next city manager.

Stewart was selected from a field of 40 applicants to succeed Steve West Steve West can refer to:
  • Steve West (pavement), the drummer for the seminal indie band Pavement and, now, the band Marble Valley
  • Steve West (Danger Danger), the drummer of the band Danger Danger
  • Steve West (ice hockey), a former ice hockey player in the WHA
, who resigned a year ago to take a comparable job in Hesperia. West had been city manager since April 1991.

Stewart could assume his new post as early as this week, pending the completion of a physical exam. He will earn $75,000 a year.

``One of the things that made him a strong candidate is that he knows the city and he knows the problems,'' said Mayor Larry Adams. ``We felt he could hit the ground running.''

Stewart recently resigned from The Weisman Group, the investment company involved in bringing a Rite Aid Rite Aid (NYSE: RAD) is a United States retailer and pharmacy chain, operating over 5,000 stores in 31 states and the District of Columbia. Rite Aid Corporation is one of the nation's leading drugstore chains.  drugstore to the community, Adams said.

The City Council delayed filling the city manager's post until officials knew the results of a June parcel tax measure - which was approved - and received the first payments from it. The tax is expected to generate $3 million a year.
