Drawing on elements of traditional Cajun music as well as jazz, country and western, and blues, it is characterized by French lyrics,  bands and other Cajun-style music.

The service club is best known for organizing an annual two-day Cajun festival over Memorial Day weekend, which is the group's biggest fundraiser and attracts more than 15,000 people each year. That event usually takes about a year to plan.

``We were able to pull a rabbit out of the hat to get this off the ground,'' said Marshall Shrago, president of the Rotary Club of Simi Sunrise, about the special concert. ``The energy is there. The desire is there.

``This particular weekend, whatever we can collect is that much more going to an area that needs our assistance.''

Organizers said they don't know Don't know (DK, DKed)

The entertainers will perform from noon to 7 p.m. at Rancho Simi Rancho San José de Nuestra Senora de Altagarcia y Simi is one of the land grants in California by the Spanish government. ``We're trying to draw attention to our friends in Louisiana, so we thought we'd keep it as pure as possible,'' said Rotary Club member Steve Smith, who coordinated the day's entertainment. ``We've borrowed from their culture for the last 16 years. We appreciate it, and we respect it. This is a perfect opportunity for us to give back to them when they really need it.''

The nonstop sounds of traditional Louisiana dance tunes will be supplied by Acadiana, Eddie Baytos and the Nervis Brothers, Lisa Haley and the Zydekats, Zydeco Party Band and Porterhouse Bob and Down to the Bone.

The bands, which have agreed to perform for free, were scheduled to perform during a similar benefit concert at Redondo Beach Saturday.

Survivor families are expected to speak at the different events, including another one scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Warner Park in Woodland Hills, organizers said.

``You can only sit and watch the television set for so long,'' said Lisa Haley, who contacted local Rotary Club members about putting together the event. ``Then you start thinking you have to do something.

``It's amazing what can be accomplished when only God gets the credit.''

Proceeds from the Simi concert will go to the Rotary clubs of Baton Rouge, Louisiana For the Canadian restaurant, see .

The special concert this weekend was planned in about eight days and will feature a dance floor and food provided by Maverick's BBQ BBQ barbecue  restaurant.

``It's much simpler,'' said Elaine Freeman, a member of the club. ``It's simply about the music and people coming and enjoying themselves and raising as much money as possible.''

Most of the necessities have been donated by businesses and individuals.

The Rancho Simi Recreation and Park Distict, for example, donated the use of the park and staging area.

``A cause like this can make a huge difference in saving people's lives and giving them hope,'' said Colleen Janssen, a spokeswoman for the park district. ``That's the biggest thing they've lost, hope for the future.''
