CAERE AND PSI ANNOUNCE ALLIANCE TO CROSS-LICENSE TECHNOLOGIES

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Caere(R) Corp. (NASDAQ: CAER) of Los Gatos, Calif., and PSI Integration Inc. of Campbell, Calif., today announced an alliance where the two companies will cross-license technologies. The initial public disclosure stemming from the alliance is the integration of Caere's optical character recognition (OCR) technology into PSI's FAXcilitate(TM) fax send and receive software which will begin shipping during the first quarter 1993 with PSI fax/modems for Apple computers.
By including OCR technology with PSI's fax software for their fax/data modems, users will be able to receive faxed documents into their Macintosh systems. Users can edit and use the information by saving a received fax directly into a word processing file. Using the "Save As" command when saving a faxed document allows files to be saved in major word processing and spread sheet file formats as well as Rich Text Format and plain text.
"PSI's integration of OCR technology provides users of Macintosh systems with new benefits," said Larry Miller, vice president of marketing for Caere. "We look forward to a long relationship with PSI in which our customers gain from our expertise in OCR combined with PSI's expertise in facsimile and communications."
