CADIS, Intergraph Speed Deutsche Bahn Toward Enterprisewide Solution with SAP's R/3; FRAMME, R/3 Integration Key to Successful Pilot Program.

ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 17, 1997--Intergraph and CADIS Cad´is

n. 1. A kind of coarse serge.
today announced the successful completion of the pilot phase for Deutsche Bahn's geographic information system geographic information system (GIS)

Computerized system that relates and displays data collected from a geographic entity in the form of a map. The ability of GIS to overlay existing data with new information and display it in colour on a computer screen is used primarily to
(DB-GIS). Deustshe Bahn (DB AG) is one of Germany's largest companies and a leading European rail transportation provider.

DB-GIS, which is based on Intergraph's premier AM/FM/GIS and object management system, FRAMME, and the Oracle 7.0 relational database relational database

Database in which all data are represented in tabular form. The description of a particular entity is provided by the set of its attribute values, stored as one row or record of the table, called a tuple.
, provides a comprehensive solution for administering the company's extensive rail-network infrastructure data. CADIS, a Germany-based group of consultants and software specialists and long-time implementation partner of Intergraph, made the project a success by creating an interface between the AM/FM/GISand SAP's R3. All of Deutsche Bahn's area-related and route-related information is being registered, evaluated, visualized and made available for a variety of applications.

For remote users, DB-GIS includes an integrated application based on Intergraph's Field View software and the R/3 Plant Maintenance module. Through an object linking and embedding See OLE.

(operating system) Object Linking and Embedding - (OLE) A distributed object system and protocol from Microsoft, also used on the Acorn Archimedes. OLE allows an editor to "farm out" part of a document to another editor and then reimport it.
(OLE)-component, a full R/3 client is connected to the DB-GIS features.

Upon receiving a work request, personnel at remote sites can efficiently reference the geographic data Geographic data is about much more than electronic pictures of maps.

The geographic data that describes our world allows for city planning, flood prediction and relief, emergency service routing, environmental assessments, wind pattern monitoring and many other applications.
in FRAMME and equipment data in R/3. This capability greatly automates the day-to-day work activities of field personnel and keeps the company's vital information systems up to date. For example, a user at a remote site can query the GIS to see the exact location of interest on an intelligent facility map, including detailed information about the facilities in question.

Since work requests also impact equipment, the user also references the equipment records in R/3. The user can view, create and update the records in R/3 while producing a work request that reflects the most current information. This is important because the equipment system is routinely accessed by other corporate systems. The Field View/R3 integration is an invaluable capability that minimizes the turn-around time to resolve problems and complete work activities. In addition, it ensures enterprisewide availability of up-to-date information.
