CAD modeler gets smarter at surfacing & assembly. (Keeping Up with CAD).

New modeling capabilities enhance the latest version of IX Speed software from ImpactSoft Corp., San Jose San Jose, city, United States
San Jose (sănəzā`, săn hōzā`), city (1990 pop. 782,248), seat of Santa Clara co., W central Calif.; founded 1777, inc. 1850.
, Calif. IX Speed allows various participants in a project to develop the CAD design in a collaborative environment over the Internet.

New functional surfacing capability lets CAD designers create and revise sculptured surfaces on the fly without problems associated with breaking modeling constraints. IX Functional Modeling technology uses ruled-based rather than history-based parametric modelers. The functional surfaces operate according to according to

2. In keeping with: according to instructions.

rules built into the software that govern how surfaces should react as the design evolves. As a user defines a surface, the software automatically generates surface geometry and establishes associative relationships.

Another feature focuses on assembly modeling. It seamlessly integrates bodies from scratch within a single assembly file or integrates parts modeled separately into an assembly or subassembly sub·as·sem·bly
n. pl. sub·as·sem·blies
An assembled unit forming a component to be incorporated into a larger assembly.

It also easily accommodates large-scale changes to assembly models. Users can add, delete, edit, reposition, or constrain con·strain

New User-Defined Objects (UDO (Ultra Density Optical) A 5.25" rewritable optical disc technology from Plasmon (www.plasmon.com) that also supports write-once (WORM) media. Using blue laser optics and phase change recording, 30GB drives and cartridges were introduced in 2003 with plans for 60GB and ) capability creates a library of customized parts with built-in "intelligence" to automatically generate and adapt their own geometry as a solid model evolves.
