International Inc (Nasdaq: CACI), Arlington, Va., has been awarded a five-year, multimillion dollar, cost plus award fee contract with the Department of Defense (DoD) to provide database reengineering and development services. Work has already begun under the new contract.

CACI's Elkridge office (formerly a division of QuesTech, Inc., acquired by CACI in November 1998) has supported DoD out of this operational group since 1972. This award expands CACI's partnership with DoD by providing a range of services necessary for reengineering important national databases.

Under the contract, CACI will improve the way that data is stored, retrieved, and presented to the user. This involves reengineering, re- hosting, and expanding current databases in a modern, platform-independent, client/server environment A networking environment that is made up of clients and servers running applications designed for client/server architecture.  technology and multi-media data management, to provide a more user-centric environment. The company will also apply Web technology to make database accessibility more convenient and enable faster, automatic updates -- increasing productivity for users.

Among the factors in CACI's selection for the contract are the company's comprehensive knowledge and awareness of the data content and use, its experience in developing several database prototypes, and its proven present and past success with this program and similar projects. CACI also offers directly related advanced information technology skills in such areas as UCA, JAVA, and CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture) A software-based interface from the Object Management Group (OMG) that allows software modules (objects) to communicate with each other no matter where they are located on a private network or the global ; and team members who are leaders in core specialty areas of legacy databases and user-friendly design. This mix of data insight and leading technology ensures development of advanced, flexible databases that meet the needs of both the producers and the users of this information.

Ronald R. Ross, CACI president and COO, noted that "This database reengineering contract award is another outstanding example of how our QuesTech acquisition is helping us grow significant areas of CACI's business."
