CACHE outperforms Oracle in IT survey. (Database News).


lntersystems Corp have announced the results of a survey comparing lntersystems and Oracle database technology conducted by the KLAS KLAS Keystone Library Automation System  Enterprises over 110 healthcare IT executives. The study compared the performance of leading healthcare applications using lntersystems or Oracle database systems. Areas of measurement included response time, database reliability and speed, hardware and support personnel requirements and downtime The time during which a computer is not functioning due to hardware, operating system or application program failure. . Extensive interviews were conducted with healthcare IT managers and executives who have an in-depth knowledge of the applications and technical issues. Additional data was gathered through an evaluation process that gathers input from healthcare CI0s and directors on more than 300 healthcare IT products.

Among survey findings:

* Users rated CACHE significantly higher in the areas of database software reliability software reliability - See also formal methods, safety-critical system.

 and scalability with Intersystems software enjoying a 0.6-0.9 gap over Oracle (where a 0.5 difference is considered significant).

* Respondents In the context of marketing research, a representative sample drawn from a larger population of people from whom information is collected and used to develop or confirm marketing strategy.  reported significantly higher scores for CACHE in terms of speed and scalability with Intersystems' database software rated 0.7 over Oracle (where a 0.5 difference is considered significant).

* Although CACHE delivered better performance with a significantly more demanding workload, cost of operations was more economical with Intersystems database products users reporting a 2.1:1 advantage in hardware required and a 2.5:1 advantage in DBAs required.
